In my 6 years career as an infographic expert, it was proven to me that blogs and infographics work very well together.

One of the reasons is that Pinterest is a blogger’s best friend. And what Pinterest loves? Beautiful images and infographics. Pinterest and Infographics are playing well together because their layouts are similar- vertical, long images.

Many bloggers get their traffic from Pinterest and therefore they have to produce quality, shareable content. Infographics are exactly that!

WHAT CAN AN INFOGRAPHIC DO FOR YOUR BLOG?

It can increase your website traffic through backlinks, searches, and viral shares.

  • It can create a stickier website, meaning that people will spend more time on your posts reading the information

  • It will help your blog stand out

  • It will increase shares and love on Tailwind

BUT HOW CAN YOU EFFECTIVELY USE INFOGRAPHICS FOR YOUR BLOG?

  1. Make it easy to share it on social media.

  2. Use branded infographics and do not forget to add your logo and your website at the bottom

  3. Optimize your infographics for SEO. Titles are very important

  4. Use entertaining illustrations and amazing data sets, if possible

  5. Know your audience

MAKE IT EASY TO SHARE IT ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Having good visuals can raise the chances for your blog to be shared on social media. Having the right sizes for your graphics is really important as well. You have to make it easy for your audience to share your content. Having the Pinterest button and social shares close to your image helps a lot!

USE BRANDED INFOGRAPHICS AND DO NOT FORGET TO ADD YOUR LOGO AND YOUR WEBSITE AT THE BOTTOM

This is a big one!

Using the same colour scheme and style for your graphics will create a clear and consistent image of your brand so next time somebody sees one of your images, they will subconsciously associate it with your blog.

Branding is not just about the graphics. It is also about the tone of voice, the way you share information and the energy you project…

Try being consistent.

OPTIMIZE INFOGRAPHICS FOR SEO

One of the biggest fears some bloggers have is that Infographics are just images and therefore there is not much SEO you can do for it.

WRONG>>>

You can do SEO for infographics by adding

  • File names- yes, name your images with the titles you wish to be found by. Since images do not have any text and the Google crawlers can not find it, they use the file names to figure out what they represent.

  • Alt text- in case your image doesn’t display right you must add an alternative text that describes what it is going on in your image.

  • Meta Description- this represents the paragraph that describes your content in search engine results page. Tip: include calls-to-action and limit the your text to 160 characters.

USE ENTERTAINING ILLUSTRATIONS AND AMAZING DATA SETS, IF POSSIBLE

There are a bunch of templates and illustrations out there that you might be able to use, but do they match your brand?

I would suggest having somebody who can help you create original illustrations and layout that will help you stand out from the crowd. If not, have someone who can at least uniformize your colours for the templates you are using.

If your brand allows it, humour works wonders for infographics, if not, keep your illustration interesting.

Initially infographics were created to show complex sets of data and information in easy to understand graphics. So, if you have a set of data that might interest your audience, share it!

KNOW YOUR AUDIENCE

Do not even start creating an infographic if you do not have an idea about who your audience is. Know their needs and how you can bring value to them.

You can find out who your audience by checking your Analytics. It can be Google Analytics, Instagram or Pinterest.
